Dino Doink Review: Apex Solventless at Detroit’s Heidelberg Project
The MiCannaCast team has officially launched our new Risky Reviews series, which takes cannabis product reviews outside of the studio and into unique, sometimes unpredictable, real-world environments. For our first installment, we visited the vibrant and historic Heidelberg Project in Detroit, Michigan—a place that perfectly reflects creativity and bold experimentation.
With art installations surrounding us, we reviewed the Dino Doink by Apex Solventless, an infused donut pre-roll that blends Front Porch Sit hydroponic craft flower with solventless rosin. Below is a detailed breakdown of every aspect of this premium product. Check out Apex Solventless IG and see all the rosin.
Packaging and First Impressions
Clear Labeling
The Dino Doink packaging provides exactly what a discerning cannabis consumer wants: clarity. Apex Solventless clearly labels which flower is used and what rosin has been infused. This level of transparency builds confidence in the product right from the start.
Room for Improvement
While the label was clear and minimalistic, a more premium look would elevate the experience. The addition of terpene profiles, cannabinoid breakdowns, and even flavor notes would give consumers an even better idea of what to expect. A product this well-crafted deserves a package that tells its full story.
Score: 8/10
Taste Evaluation
The Dino Doink’s flavor journey is complex and worth savoring. Because infused pre-rolls change as you smoke them, we evaluated taste in two phases: before and after the rosin core begins to burn.
Phase One: Flower Only
The initial puffs highlight the quality of the Front Porch Sit hydroponic flower. It delivers a clean, slightly gassy aroma with delicate fruity undertones that remind us of peach rings. The inhale is exceptionally smooth, and there’s no throat irritation. This first stage already sets a high standard for flavor.
Score: 8.5/10
Phase Two: Flower with Rosin
As the donut burns into the rosin center, the experience transforms. Tropical fruit and citrus notes burst forward, layering orange, lemon, and peach-like flavors over the gassy base. This is where the craftsmanship of a solventless rosin-infused donut shines. The combination feels balanced and full-bodied, never overpowering, and each hit feels smoother and richer than the last.
Score: 8.8/10
Ash and Burn Quality
Even Burn and Craftsmanship
A donut-style pre-roll is only as good as its roll. The Dino Doink maintained an even burn from start to finish. There was no canoeing, tunneling, or uneven smoke, which is critical for infused products where melting rosin can sometimes cause problems.
The ash was light gray to white, a good indicator of clean materials and a proper cure. An oily resin ring formed around the cherry and stayed consistent throughout the session. This is a hallmark of a high-quality infused pre-roll.
Score: 9/10
Experience Throughout the Session
Midway Flavor
At the halfway point, the flavor actually improved, with the rosin’s influence fully integrated. The tropical and citrus notes deepened, while the base gassy notes kept the profile grounded. Each puff stayed smooth and flavorful, which is not always the case with infused donuts.
Toward the End
Only at the very end did the taste grow slightly harsher, which is common as resin builds. Even so, the smoke quality remained high enough to make finishing the donut enjoyable without feeling like a chore.
Score: 9/10
Effects and High
Immediate Effects
The first few minutes brought a wave of relaxation without sedation. It was balanced by a light, creative energy—perfect for walking through the Heidelberg Project and taking in the art around us.
Midway Effects
As the session continued, the effects settled into a more social, chill zone. While there was a slight awareness of being in a public place (the “risky” part of this review), the overall vibe stayed calm and enjoyable.
Final Effects
By the end, the Dino Doink delivered a balanced high that left us mellow, uplifted, and functional. It’s not the kind of product that knocks you out—instead, it supports a fun day out. This made it a great fit for a session in a public, creative space.
Score: 13/15
Price and Value
At $35 for 2 grams of flower and 0.5 gram of rosin, this infused pre-roll is well priced for the quality. Sharing it between two people makes it even more cost-effective. Considering the craftsmanship, consistency, and overall experience, the Dino Doink provides excellent value for money.
Score: 8.5/10
